Within the app you only want to select the "ATA Secure Erase" option as the other erase options will only cause undue wear on the SSD and make the problem worse and they won't reset the SSD to factory defaults. There should be an icon on the Parted Magic desktop for erasing drives. Option Boot the Parted Magic USB drive and select the orange icon labeled "EFI". Create a bootable Parted Magic USB drive using Etcher. You can perform a Secure Erase using Parted Magic which is a custom Linux boot disk which contains customized Linux utilities. Not all Apple SSDs implement a hardware Secure Erase feature. ![]() If it was my SSD I would perform a hardware Secure Erase of the SSD which will erase and reset the SSD to factory defaults as well as restore lost performance. If you still have issues, then you may need to erase and reinstall macOS. If the internal SSD has an issue, then local recovery mode may have the same issues as booting normally. You should try booting into Internet Recovery Mode (Command + Option + R) instead of using local Recovery Mode (Command + R) since local recovery mode boots from the internal SSD. The window has a drop-down menu with the user accounts, and shows 2, not the 1 that is displayed in System Prefs. If I click anywhere while the beach ball is spinning, the click will register only after the menu opens, which closes the menu, and then I have to try again, which takes another 5-10 minutes of waiting.Īfter FINALLY clicking Mount in the File menu, there's another 2-3 minute wait with the spinning beach ball, then it displays a window for me to enter my password. ![]() After I click the File menu to mount the drive, I get a spinning beach ball for 5-10 minutes before the menu actually opens.
